110 year Anniversary
Mac will celebrate its 110 year anniversary in 2017, and we are on the cusp of mapping out a celebratory game plan. Many of you attended the centennial in 2007 and are aware of the time and energy dedicated to the project. While we aren't going as big this time, we still want to do something wonderful. And for that, we need people who will pitch in and help. All of this starts with your attendance at our annual AGM, and we hope you come. Kindly RSVP to Jeff Taylor, Or show up if the day suddenly opens up for you.
We need to fill key roles on the executive - vice president and treasurer, and, on the fun side, we will be moving up to the high school to unveil the improved Duces Athletici plaque with our guest of honour, Norm St. Aubin, 95, who was featured in our last newsletter. Afterward, we're going out for a late lunch at Cunningham's.
The agenda for the meeting is as follows:

1. Approval of May 30, 2015 AGM Minutes
2. Approval of May 28, 2016 AGM Agenda
3. President's Report
4. Secretary's Report
5. Treasurer's Report
6. Webmaster's Report
8. Open Positions (Vice President, Treasurer, Home and School Liaison)

Year in Review

This past year was a busy one; we awarded our annual MHSAA Leadership Award to a deserving graduate, partially funded the purchase of a new visual art display unit, attended the annual Remembrance Day ceremony, and more recently, at the request of a Mac Alumnus, rectified an omission on the Duces Athletici plaque.  Our Facebook page has also been kept up-to-date and the MHSAA can now be found on Twitter and Instagram.
2016-17 promises to be just as busy and exciting

Your February Newsletter is Here!

Hello again from your Mac High Alumni Association!
Welcome alumni! This is the second of our newsletters to keep you up to date on
Macdonald High School Alumni Association (MHSSA) activities, to outline our future plans and ask you for your input and ideas.

In this issue you'll get to read about Norm St. Aubin, a Mac High alumnus, former Ste. Anne's Marina owner and a legend along the St. Lawrence River. Click on the Newsletter section on the right to get the whole story.

Thanks to alumna Toni Scholefield, we'll also treat you to a photo display of our 2015 Remembrance Day Activities.

Alumni have been asking for a chance to donate to much needed sports equipment and supplies at Macdonald. You can donate by clicking on

Our first newsletter generated what at first blush looked like a simple call to
action - Macdonald alum Norm St. Aubin, '37, wrote to us asking our help to rectify a 79 year old omission: a name left off the Duces Athletici plaque hanging on the wall just outside the principal's office at Macdonald High School.

There was a blank for the years 1939-40 and his late friend's name, David G. Bonnell, should be on it, Norm told us.

Our association president, Jeff Taylor, got to work. Jeff enlisted the help of his teacher contact and together they hatched a plan after consulting with Norm. They've now got the wooden plaque in hand and an artist is working on it.

In the course of the email flow, and several telephone interviews, I realized that Norm, a thriving 94-year-old Hudson resident who still logs 15 to 20,000 kilometres a year driving to veterans' events and dinners, is a legend in his own right. Stories - both "war stories" and "after the war stories"- virtually poured out of him, and he remembered events and names in vivid detail.

For more of Norm's compelling story, please click on the Newsletter section on the right!

MHSAA Leadership Award 2015

Our president Jeff Taylor was fortunate enough to participate in the 2014-15 Mac Grad’s convocation back in early October.
He presented the MHSAA Leadership Award winner their award package, plaque and cheque in the amount of $500.
This year our deserving winner, who was nominated by teachers and staff at the school was Laura Nichols-Rossignol. Laura was a quintuple award winner on the night. Her humility and gratitude was very refreshing. She was heavily involved throughout her tenure at Mac in the Yearbook and many Student Leadership Conferences including being selected as 1 of 4 Mac delegates to attend the annual Canadian Student Leadership Conference in Kelowna, BC.

A Top Ten student academically, Laura also participated in community events put on by Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Health awareness initiatives, as well as worked on projects to aid the less fortunate both locally and abroad.

Laura will be continuing her studies at John Abbott College in Social Sciences and the MHSAA would like to take this opportunity to congratulate her again, as well as wish her much success and happiness in the future. Perhaps she’ll represent some of the “young blood” we’re hoping to inject into the MHSAA!!

Congratulations once again Laura!
We wish you the best of luck in the future!
